Dr Geoffrey Fisher

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself to you. I am now in my third year at B.D. Somani and take pleasure in every minute. B.D. Somani is a school where student development is our key criteria and this is true for all ages and all areas. We take academic development as key but also develop students as people. In this endeavour relationships are the most important factor – student to student, student to faculty and faculty to faculty. Thriving in the world demands strong relationships that we can rely on and this is particularly true here at B.D. Somani.

I am enjoying my 27th year as a Director of international schools in a variety of settings around the globe including the positions of Principal of Kodaikanal International School and Head of Academy at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad. My other Directorships were in Argentina, Australia, Netherlands and Belgium. I have benefitted by being exposed to a multitude of countries and cultures. I am greatly looking forward to continue to be part of developing B.D. Somani and to assisting the school in contributing to Mumbai and Maharashtra. My wife was a Rotary Youth Ambassador to Bombay Main Rotary Club in 1977, so it is lovely to be settled in this amazing city.

I was born in Africa with British parents and spent most of my childhood and education in Australia. My teaching specialisation is in the Sciences with a focus on Chemistry. I have also experience teaching Theory of Knowledge in the IB diploma. My doctorate was in Education and my research interest is in School Effectiveness and School Improvement.

I am blessed with my wife Leigh, three children Charles, James and Eleanor. Charles and James are both married, and Charles has two children. Eleanor is at university in the UK.

I am looking forward to getting to know the B.D. Somani International community and to the opportunity to play a role in the ongoing development of what is a unique and wonderful learning community.
